Jim and Juli Boeheim have been active supporters and ambassadors for many local and national charities for more than a decade. Together, they have become fundraising trailblazers and continue
to raise awareness and support in their Central New York community and beyond. Their mission is to go beyond the necessary fundraising to make a connection with the people they are fundraising for. They believe strongly that by working
together, we can make a significant difference in
the lives of others.

Each year, Jim and Juli raise almost $1 million for the Coaches vs. Cancer charity, the nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The Boeheims' signature fundraising event is the Basket Ball, an annual black-tie affair that began in 2000 and has grown each year.

They are also active supporters and fundraisers for a number of other local and national charities including Make-A-Wish, Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse, The Rescue Mission, Casey's Place, The Syracuse Community Health Center, SUNY Upstate Medical Center
and ARC among others.

I don't even know if this pertains to a story you would be
interested in but I want to tell you about my Dad, Joseph R. Herne, from the
St. Regis Mohawk Reservation in Hogansburg, NY. Well, Dad passed away from
lung cancer this past July. Dad never missed a Syracuse Orangemen basketball
game. He was a huge fan way back when you started coaching. Much of our huge
family is carrying on the tradition of loving the Orangemen. I, myself, have
not missed a game this year.
If you could of seen the look and joy on his face when your won the National
Championship. He bragged and gloated for days on end. Besides seeing his
grandchildren grow up, he was the happiest I ever seen him.
His last trip to the Dome was in March, 2008, right before his birthday March 10th. The pictures that were taken were incredible, the smiles, the laughter, everything I want to remember him by. Jim, you were his inspiration, you and the team. He just love the Orangeman!!
I'm on my way up to watch the Orangeman play Cincinnati this coming Sunday for the first time at the Dome. My three daughters bought us all tickets, knowing how much I love your team. Whether you win or lose (I hope you win) really doesn't matter because I'll be filling my Dad's dream of seeing your team play again but this time I'll be watching in person.
I miss him so much, but you have made it more comforting for me to watch all the games because I know my Dad is right on side of me watching too.
I thank you for being an inspiration for me and my Dad, by the way, if Syracuse Orangeman didn't make the tournament, my Dad refuse to watch a game after that, that's how dedicated he was to you. Thank you again!
Sincerely,
Brenda Johnston
